Antequera's Athletics Centre plays host to the 55th edition of the Spanish Indoor Athletics Championships on 16 and 17 February.

The event, which will attract almost 500 athletes, will for the second time have more female than male representation, confirmed the president of the Spanish Athletics Federation, Raúl Chapado, at the tournament's presentation in Malaga on Monday.

They will be out in search of qualification in 13 different disciplines for the European Championships which will be held in Glasgow in less than two weeks' time.

The mayor of Antequera, Manuel Barón, said: "To bring the championships back again for the second time in four years speaks a lot about our town's capabilities for hosting this type of sporting event. The economic impact it will generate and the image it will create will be positive for generations to come."
