Construction on Malaga's new Academy, in the Arraijanal part of the city close to the airport, has come to a complete standstill with constructors Bilba removing all machinery from the site. The stumbling block has been finance tied up in land owned by the club in El Viso.

Red tape has held up its sale, but SUR understands that the club and the city hall have reached an occupation agreement to free up the 4.5 million euros needed to kickstart the Academy project.

This came after club president Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani took to Twitter to leap to his defence after attracting criticism for the absence of funding from the 'IU-Málaga para la Gente' group on the council. Al-Thani said: "We are on good way to finish the Academy of Málaga CF and you will see the reality [sic]."
