  • The Costa del Sol side deserved more in the Murcia match that pushes them closer to the danger zone and the bottom of the table

Marbella FC officially sacked coach Rafael Pérez Guerrero 'Padilla' on Wednesday after Saturday's defeat against UCAM Murcia left his position untenable. He has been replaced by David García Cubillo, who signed a contract this week until June 2020. Cubillo has previously been coach of CD Puerta Bonita and Getafe B as well as in the junior categories of Atlético Madrid. As a player he wore the colours of Atlético, Xerez, Recreativo de Huelva, Getafe, Rayo Vallecano and Conquense.

Marbella's defeat on Saturday leaves them 16th in Group IV of Segunda División B and in need of a run of wins to avoid the threat of relegation at the end of the season.

To their credit, however, the Costa del Sol side deserved at least a draw on their visit to UCAM Murcia, who currently sit top of the table.

It was a goal from Colinas 20 minutes from the end of the game that sealed their fate. Marbella had managed to keep their opponents at bay throughout the first half despite several attempts to score by the home side.

Murcia's first chance came as early as the third minute although Marbella's keeper Wilfred was on his toes for the shots that were on target.

For Marbella, Juergen had a couple of inconsequential forays into the opponents' area and Mustafá failed to get the ball past Murcia keeper Germán when he had a chance at goal towards the end of the first half.

Marbella's next game, and first under Cubillo, is against Jumilla at home on Monday 7 January.
