Malaga ended the year with a lacklustre performance last Saturday in their away game against Oviedo. They deserved no more than the point they came away with after a game in which they looked uncomfortable and lacking the initiative shown in previous matches.
The visitors only caused concern for their hosts on the very few occasions that they made any kind of approach on goal, improving somewhat when coach Muñiz brought on Ontiveros in the last 15 minutes.
Oviedo, on the other hand, had two clear chances to score, although in both cases luck was on Malaga's side.
With their shortage of ideas in attack, it was Malaga's defensive football that salvaged them a point.
Malaga end 2018 with league leadership just two points away. Their next game is at La Rosaleda against Reus on Sunday 6 January at 8pm.
