Malaga had a poor start to their 2017-18 campaign last year and currently sit at 19th place in La Liga with 11 points from 17 games. However, there is hope for a better 2018. The arrival of Chilean Manuel Iturra from Club Nexaca in Mexico has added an exciting new option for the struggling club. Head coach Míchel has recently announced that Malaga will return to a 4-1-4-1 formation, which served them well last season with a comfortable mid-table finish. This formation should incorporate Iturra perfectly, add new passing lanes and attacking options and create more goal-scoring opportunities, which Míchel has stated is a priority. It will also ensure that Malaga do not compromise on their defence, which has been bolstered by the arrival of Ignasi Miquel from Lugo in the second division. Thursday evening's game against Hamburg, which Malaga lost 2-1 in La Línea, could be an indicator of how the rest of Malaga's season will play out.
