Season opener goes according to plan for Unicaja
  • Plaza's men recorded a comfortable win over an underwhelming Murcia side on the opening day of the Liga ACB

Preseason lasted a week longer for Unicaja who enjoyed an easy ride in their league opener against an underwhelming UCAM Murcia side on Sunday.

The Malaga side dominated from start to finish against a rival from whom more was expected. Having had the busiest preseason of all teams, UCAM Murcia looked far inferior and the deficit could have been much greater at the final whistle.

Nemanja Nedovic picked up where he left off, driving the team forward, however it was Jeff Brooks, starting his second season with Unicaja, who was the leading points scorer with 15 - showing the sort of confidence that had been lacking last year.

Head coach Joan Plaza set up his side ultra-defensively to successfully contain the erratic attack of the side from Murcia. This, paired with domination of the rebound and conviction on the three-pointers meant that Unicaja led throughout, taking their dominance in the first half into the second, eventually running out 64-74 winners.
