Trocadero Marbella secured their ninth win of the season after beating Unión Rugby Almeria 33-21.

The victory all but guarantees Marbella's status as a División de Honor B side next season, with five games of the season still to play.

Almeria, who initially made life hard for the hosts, are a team now seriously threatened with relegation as they languish in second-to-last place in the table.

Although the adverse weather conditions created handling errors aplenty on both sides in the first half, it was the hosts who began the match the brighter.

After an initial penalty had put the Marbella outfit ahead, a handling error from Almeria allowed the quick feet of full-back Enrique González to collect the ball and score the first try of the game. The 30-year-old capitalised on another mistake in the visitors' defence 12 minutes later to give the Marbella side a convincing 15-0 lead.

The Trocadero defence had so far held firm, not allowing the visitors to convert their domination into points. González's second score had exerted further pressure on the visitors, but they duly responded and eventually broke down the resilient home defence to score two converted tries and put the game very much back in the balance.

Nevertheless, the hosts regained control in the second half and added two further tries while conceding another one to secure a bonus-point victory which consolidated their place in sixth position in the table.

Next up for Marbella is a trip to fifth-placed CR Cisneros B and an opportunity to close the seven-point gap between the sides currently. The match will take place on 19 February.
