A woman dies after being hit by an electric scooter in Spain

Both the scooter rider and the woman were taken to hospital in Lleida, but the pedestrian later died


A 78-year-old woman who was hit by an electric scooter in the historic Spanish city of Lleida died on Wednesday, 22 September, at the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital, Local Police officers have confirmed.

This is the first fatal accident involving an electric scooter in Lleida, in Spain's north-eastern Catalonia region, the Segre newspaper reported.

The accident happened at 12.52 pm on Tuesday when the woman was crossing a cycle path on Avenida Catalunya to make her way to a pedestrian crossing. She was hit by an electric scooter and suffered a blow to the head.

The woman and the scooter rider were taken to the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital in Lleida, but the 78-year-old woman later died.
