Ministry of Health reports 171 Covid-19 deaths in a day

  • The national daily coronavirus death toll in Spain is the second highest figure since May

Spain's Ministry of Health has notified 171 coronavirus deaths this Thursday, 26 August, the second highest figure since May, only surpassed by the 190 on Tuesday. The total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic now stands at 83,861, according to official statistics.

The number of new infections, on the other hand, offers better news. The department added 7,115 new positive tests in the last 24 hours, a number significantly lower than the more than 10,000 that have been added daily in the last few days. The total number of people infected since March of last year, with a positive test, rises to 4,822,320.

The cumulative incidence, which dropped by 15 compared to Wednesday, stands at 276.43.

Hospital pressure continues to decrease with Covid patients occupying 6.29 per cent of ward beds, compared to 6.53 per cent on Wednesday, and 18.54 per cent of intensive care beds compared to 19.22 per cent the day before.
