Andalucía appears to be unstoppable in its mass vaccination strategy against the coronavirus. Some 40 per cent of the target population in the region have already received some protection and almost 20 per cent have been fully vaccinated. The long-awaited herd immunity is getting closer and the regional government has now revealed its strategy against Covid in the coming weeks.

According to the Junta’s head, Juanma Moreno, the plan is to start the vaccination of the 50 and 51 year-olds next week on 1 June, and the following week "it is scheduled to begin the vaccination of those under 50 years”.

This was announced by the president who was speaking to journalists in Seville; this week the population aged 52 and 53 is being vaccinated, he said.

He said the vaccine is working "in a very effective way and is creating a strong shield to avoid infections, hospitalisations and deaths.”

“However, we must continue to be very cautious," he warned.
