Spain's National Police force has warned homeowners to be on the lookout for a new technique that burglars are using to know if anyone is at home.

With many people unable to regularly visit their properties because of coronavirus travel restrictions burglars have been looking for new tricks to make their crimes easier.

Through their social media accounts, the National Police have warned of a new method being used by thieves, which is similar to the one already well-known involving transparent plastic strips.

In this new method, the criminals place strings of glue between door and the frame. With this simple system, the thieves know if there is movement in the house in question and if its occupants enter and leave normally or, if on the contrary, they have not opened the door for days.

The National Police force is calling for the public to be vigilant and if they find these glue strings at the entrance to their property, to call 091. In this way, officers can be put on the trail of criminals who may be operating in the area.
