Parachutist collides with lamppost at parade

The military specialist was due to land in front of dignitaries, including the royal family at the 12 October celebration

An expert military parachutist was comforted by the royal family at last Saturday's Hispanic Day parade in Madrid.

Minutes earlier he had failed to land just in front of the stand of dignitaries after jumping with the unfurled Spanish flag, a highlight of this annual 12 October event.

Instead, the first lieutenant had got caught in a lamppost, where he remained for a while as the crowd willed him on to free himself.
