British Ambassador to Spain Hugh Elliott has moved to reassure Thomas Cook customers currently in Spain that they should not incur any additional fees from their hotels.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Elliott explained that the UK's Civil Aviation Authority "has already sent a guarantee of payment to every hotel with Thomas Cook package holiday customers" from the date of arrival to the scheduled departure date.

However, he also issued the advice to call the UK's Civil Aviation Authority (+44 1753 330 330) "if you are on an ATOL-protected package holiday and are experiencing difficulties from the hotel or they are requesting payment from you".
