The town council in Marbella has put the construction of a new public residence for the elderly in the town out to tender. The development, estimated to cost around six million euros, will be located on the Trapiche del Prado site.
Money for the local government project will come from «the work to recover assets from judicial proceedings for corruption,« according to the mayor Ángeles Muñoz.
The centre will have a capacity of 80 places during the first phase, eventually reaching a maximum of 128.
The aim is for residents to enjoy «a privileged environment, with wonderful views of the city and the sea, and which will have large garden areas,» explained the mayor, although she has not given any clues about how long the works will last.
The site, donated by the Álvarez family, will be divided according to the degree of dependency of the residents. The western area will be dedicated to the older people and the northern part is where the more independent will live.
The mayor also said the design of the facility will ensure that «views of the old Trapiche del Prado», classified as a site of cultural interest, will be protected and interpretation centre will be added.
