Firefighters and Local Police officers rescued a griffon vulture in Nueva Andalucía, Marbella on Monday afternoon. The injured animal had taken refuge on the landing of a staircase in a residential development.

Units from both public bodies were alerted after a call was made to the 112 emergency services hotline at around 7pm.

Great care had to be taken to capture the bird without aggravating its injuries, and firefighters covered it with a blanket before transferring it, in a cage, to the Urvet de Marbella emergency veterinary hospital while awaiting collection by members of the Junta de Andalucía's Endangered Species Recovery Centre (CREAS).

So far this year, members of the Marbella Fire Brigade have participated in fifty animal rescues, including dogs, cats and snakes, as well as incidents involving swarms of bees or wasps.
