The 58 new coronavirus infections reported in Malaga province this Tuesday, 21 September, by the Junta de Andalucía’s Ministry of Health is lowest daily figure of the fifth wave of the pandemic.

And, for the second consecutive day, there have been no Covid-19 deaths in Malaga, so the death toll since the first was reported on 13 March of last year remains at 1,944. So far in September, 52 people who suffered from an infection caused by SARS-CoV-2 have lost their lives in Malaga province.

Recovered

In addition to the 58 new infections, the Junta has reported another 776 people have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.

The province’s cumulative incidence rate has fallen again to stand at 75.2 positives per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. The average rate in the Andalucía region is 69 infections per 100,000 where 292 new cases of Covid have been registered, 10 deaths and 3,272 people have recovered after having overcome the disease.

If the incidence rate of infections in the last seven days is analysed, it can be seen that the evolution of the pandemic is good. In Malaga province the rate is 29.5 positives per 100,000 inhabitants, while the Andalusian average is 27.5.

Hospitals

Meanwhile, in Malaga province hospitals there are 133 patients admitted with coronavirus, of which 30 are in intensive care units. Those hospitalised by Covid-19 in Andalucía number 476; of these, 131 are receiving treatment in an ICU.

Although all the indicators have improved (fewer infections, reduction in hospital admissions and decrease in deaths), experts advise the public not to lower their guard, because the virus is unpredictable and can easily rebound.

Likewise, they recommend that people who have not yet been vaccinated go to get their doses, because it is the best way to control the health crisis and achieve greater protection against Covid.

Nursing homes

This Tuesday, a third dose has begun to be administered in the nursing homes across Andalucía in order to strengthen the immune systems of the elderly, whose antibody numbers have been reduced since they were vaccinated at the beginning of the year.
