Unusual US military visitor spotted in secure area at Malaga Port

The 120-metre catamaran, Carson City, docked in the city this Tuesday morning

The Port of Malaga has received one of its most unusual recent visitors, this Tuesday morning (19 October). At first glance, it might look like a one of the catamarans used in summer for the Melilla route, but without any shipping company signage.

Indeed, it is a 'fast ferry' but for military use - not civilians.

The Carson City is a 120-metre long United States Navy craft and is moored in the security zone of the Levante dock, so it is not easy to see it from ground level, only from a raised viewpoint as our photograph by Salvador Salas illustrates.

The vessel is used to transport marines and military personnel, as well as materials and food amongst other things. It is currently making a technical stopover and restocking with supplies at the facilities in Malaga.
