Malaga diver missing after a military training exercise in Huesca

Army sergeant Mario Quirós Ruiz disappeared in the early hours of 12 October

An Army sergeant from Malaga, Mario Quirós Ruiz, has been reported missing since the early morning of 12 October, when he was taking part in a diving practice exercise in the El Grado reservoir in Huesca, a military spokesperson has confirmed.

The non-commissioned officer, a native of Malaga and a resident of Melilla, disappeared "during a scheduled exercise for assault divers” said the spokesperson, who stressed that a search for the soldier is still continuing in the Aragon region town.

Sergeant Quirós, who would turn 23 years old this Friday, 15 October, was assigned to the Engineer Regiment No. 8, belonging to the General Command of Melilla, and according to the military spokesperson “the family have been informed”.

During the diving courses, participants receive technical, physical and tactical training to prepare them for missions in peacetime and in combat situations.
