Two companies bid to light up Malaga at Christmas

The new light show is planned for the La Concepción botanical gardens, although several groups have raised objections

Two companies have bid to install and run the Christmas light show that the Malaga city council has planned in the La Concepción botanical gardens this Christmas.

The festive attraction, which has already been criticised by a group of volunteers, members of the Association of Friends of the La Concepción Botanical Garden; by Ecologists in Action; and by the Adelante Málaga political group, will operate from 23 November to 10 January.

Between those dates, when the historic green space closes its doors to regular visitors, it will reopen them again at 6.30pm and be converted into 'a journey through the spirit of Christmas', until 11pm.

For this, the council asked companies to tender for the installation of decorative lights, a merry-go-round, and a food stall. The process has now closed and two companies have offered bids which will be reviewed and open to public scrutiny for five days.

The council plans to complete the selection of one of them before the end of the month to allow the winning company time to obtain all the necessary permits to carry out the project.
