A National Police officer, attached to the drugs and organised crime squad (Udyco) on the Costa del Sol, is in a hospital intensive care unit with multiple injuries after his vehicle was forced off the road by suspected drug traffickers.

The incident happened at around 9.15pm on Monday on the A-45 road when the officer was tracking two vehicles that had aroused his suspicions in what appeared to be a drug transportation operation.

The unmarked police vehicle started a pursuit that crossed into Cordoba province, before it was rammed off the road close to the small town of Monturque, near Lucena.

Intensive care unit

According to sources consulted, the police car rolled and the suspects fled the scene, with no arrests being made or drugs recovered.

The police officer was transferred to a Cordoba hospital in a serious condition and was admitted directly to the intensive care unit, although according to SUR sources there is no fear for his life. "It was a miracle," the source added.
