A new forest fire has been declared in Malaga province. A lack of rain this autumn has seen the normal peak wildfire season extended well into the month of October.
The latest one was declared this Tuesday, 12 October, just minutes before 5pm in the Cortijo Carrión area, in the municipality of Periana, in the Alta Axarquía region.
The Junta de Andalucía’s Plan Infoca brigade sent 38 forest firefighters, a fire engine and three helicopters to the scene to help tackle the flames.
Almost three hours later, at 8pm, Infoca declared the wildfire 'controlled' as ground crews continued their work to fully extinguish the blaze.
