Jellyfish alert on the beaches of the Costa del Sol, but particularly near Nerja

On Tuesday, yellow flags were flown to warn of the danger on Malaga's sands

Be careful if you plan to go to a beach in the next few hours, particularly on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol, especially if you want to avoid a painful encounter with jellyfish.

The Infomedusa app, developed by the Aula del Mar marine conservation organisation in Malaga, is reporting a high presence of the invertebrates on several beaches in the Nerja area, including the shores of Burrina, El Playazo, Calahonda and La Turret. And the app warns there is a possibility of more jellyfish arriving on the rest of the beaches in the eastern area of the Costa del Sol. Meanwhile, on the western shores the numbers of jellyfish this Wednesday (11 August) is low, according to the application.

Since the beginning of August, jellyfish have been sighted in several points along the Malaga coastline although, for now, not with an excessive presence as in previous summers.

On Tuesday, the council in Malaga reported that yellow warning flags were flying on all the beaches of the city due to the presence of jellyfish. This Wednesday the flags have returned to green.

The same also happened on several beaches on the Granada coast, including Almuñécar, where a yellow flag was raised to warn of small jellyfish.
