Breeder arrested after dogs found in 'deplorable' conditions on a rooftop in Vélez

After a tip off, police found the malnourished animals to be very weak and without access to food or water

National Police officers in Vélez-Málaga have arrested a dog breeder after they found his animals were being kept in ‘deplorable’ conditions on the roof terrace of a residential apartment block in the town.

The dogs were found to be malnourished, very weak and without food or water, so officers ended up arresting their owner accused of animal abuse .

A tip-off to the 091 police control room alerted the force to the plight of the animals and a patrol was immediately despatched.

Officers found the two animals without food or water, in unhygienic conditions and surrounded by their own faeces. One of the dogs was chained up and barely able to move.

After the police located the 38-year-old owner of the dogs, a resident of the building, he said he bred and exhibited dogs but that had fallen on hard times. The man was arrested and charged, while the dogs were taken in by an Axarquia animal shelter.
