Specialist Infoca forest firefighters continue to work this Wednesday, 15 September, to fully extinguish the Sierra Bermeja fire.
The huge blaze was declared ‘controlled’ on Tuesday after rain helped quell the flames of the wildfire that had burned for six days.
The teams on the ground are working to dampen down all hotspots on the affected 10,000 hectare site.
In total there are 85 forest firefighters, in addition to environmental agents, a medical unit and five fire tenders. They are working without air support.
The fire, which broke out last Wednesday night, forced the preventive eviction of more than 2,600 people at the height of the blaze. It also cost the life of the Infoca forest firefighter Carlos Martínez Haro, from Almeria.
