Giuseppina Filippone, co-founder of the famous Da Bruno restaurant group on the Costa del Sol, died on Saturday "after a complicated illness," according to family sources in a statement issued to "thank people for their messages of condolence."
The businesswoman had been battling an illness in hospital like her husband, Bruno Filippone, who remains admitted, although the reasons have not been disclosed.
Giuseppina had two children, Giancarlo and Marcella and was very well-known on the coast.
The Italian couple arrived on the Costa del Sol more than 25 years ago where they opened their first restaurant in 1994 in the heart of the town. Initially starting with traditional Italian food, the pair expanded the group with Da Bruno a Casa in 1999, Cabopino in 2001, Sul Mare in 2002, San Pedro in 2005, Da Bruno Take Away and Delicatessen in 2008, Mijas-Costa in 2012 and Döss Marbella (with Asian and innovative touches) in 2018.
A lover of fine food, Giuseppina made a name for herself on the Costa del Sol thanks to her work in the different restaurants where she was particularly known for her high standards of customer service.
