A connecting walkway between Estepona's port and its Paseo Marítimo has been opened. Over 1.4 million euros has been spent on the 140-metre-long project which has also included landscaping the affected area.
The work, including improvements to access roads to the port as well, has been 80 per cent paid for with EU funds and aims to better integrate the port into the neighbouring town streets.
The Junta regional government, which owns the port, said the improvements it is carrying out would stimulate more investment and job creation by encouraging more visitors.
Meanwhile, east of Estepona, some 700 metres of a new link of the Costa del Sol coastal pathway scheme in the Guadalmansa area are now open.
This means it is possible to walk for an uninterrupted stretch of 11km as far as the port, with 90 per cent of the coastline in the municipality now covered by the long-distance pathway.
