Public transport in Benalmádena will be cost-free from the early part of next year to those passengers who are officially on the local 'padrón' census as residents.

A review of bus routes and their frequency is also under way, the council has said

"We are working on several ideas so that our town meets European green standards," said the mayor, Víctor Navas.

A system is being put in place whereby residents will be issued special bus pass cards to prove that they live in the Benalmádena municipal area.
