The Junta de Andalucía has, this Wednesday (26 May), approved the declaration of a new 'area of great tourist influx' for Malaga city, which will allow all the provincial capital's shopping centres to open on Sundays and public holidays from 20 July.

The approval had been sought by Malaga city council.

The new ZGAT plan will allow commercial centres to be open every Sunday and on public holidays from 20 July to 30 September, and will apply to the entire municipality.

Starting in 2022 the period will be extended to between 1 June and 30 September and also include the Sundays of the Easter holidays.

In addition, during the Junta’s council meeting, the number of Sundays and holidays that large commercial establishments can open throughout the region in 2022 was also approved and extended to 16.

Specifically, they may open on 2 and 9 January, 27 February, 14 April, 2 May, 3 and 31 July, 15 and 28 August, 1 and 27 November and 4, 8, 11, 18 and 26 December.

Stores of less than 300 square metres maintain the requirement for specific authorisation to open on any Sunday or public holiday.
