National Police in Ronda have helped rescue a man who was injured after accidentally falling down an embankment while picking asparagus.

The 74-year-old was eventually found, after an intensive search operation, in a difficult to access area and semi-hidden in the undergrowth, unable to move and just a few metres from a steep drop.

He was located after his wife raised the alarm; she had contacted her husband by phone and learned that he had fallen.

With the approximate location to hand the search began and the septuagenarian was eventually found with head and leg injuries and unable to move on his own. It his believed that he lay there for three hours after the fall.

Police transferred the man to a waiting ambulance which took him to the Serranía hospital in the town.
