A British resident who has lived in Arroyo de la Miel for almost 40 years celebrated her 100th birthday last week. Described by her friends as a "cheerful and sociable person", Ivy Rhodes is an active member of several foreign clubs in Benalmádena, including The Eagles Club and Age Care.
Ivy had intended to celebrate her landmark birthday with a party to thank all of her friends for the friendship they have shown her over the years. However, because of the restrictions enforced to curb the spread of the coronavirus, she has had to postpone the celebration until the pandemic is over.
Ivy was born in Dudley, Worcestershire, in 1921. In 1947, she moved to London, where she worked for Columbia Pictures until her retirement. She has toured many countries throughout her life, but she held a special affection for the south of Spain, where, in 1982, she bought an apartment in Benalmádena.
Mayor and councillor for Foreign Residents Víctor Navas, who visited Ivy to personally congratulate her and present her with a bouquet of flowers, said: “Ivy Rhodes is a much-loved and well-known figure in Arroyo de la Miel, where she has lived for 40 years. She is involved with several expat organisations and she is always available if someone needs her help.”
