The increase in the Covid-19 contagion rate in the province of Malaga - which already exceeds 300 per 100,000 inhabitants - has accelerated the rate of mass screening carried out by Junta de Andalucía.

On Monday mobile screening units were in Gaucín, Monda and Genalguacil.

Starting this Tuesday screenings will be carried out in larger towns. The first of them will be Coín, where 1,000 residents have been voluntarily summoned to undergo antigen tests. Another 1,000 residents have been called for tests in Vélez-Málaga.

On Wednesday it will be turn of Alhaurín el Grande, while the mobile test units will visit Mijas on Thursday and Fuengirola on Friday.

In all cases the participants invited for the tests, where results are known in 15 minutes, will be notified by text message with details of test locations and times.

Council leaders have called for all people summoned to attend the mass screening sessions. The mayor of Alhaurín said, “It is of the utmost importance to improve the epidemiological situation."

One hundred per cent negative

According to the mayor of Genalguacil, Miguel Ángel Herrera, out of 130 summoned to the screening in the Serranía de Ronda village on Monday, 90 attended with one hundred per cent negative.
