The Spanish Met Office Aemet has put a series of weather warnings in place across Malaga province for heavy rain from 6pm on Wednesday evening through to 3pm on Thursday afternoon.
A yellow warning is in place for Ronda, the Costa del Sol and the Guadalhorce valley from 6pm on Wednesday. That is then upgraded to amber for Malaga city, the Costa del Sol, the Guadalhorce valley, Antequera and the Axarquía at midnight. All warnings for Malaga province will provisionally stay in place until 3pm on Thursday.
Forecasters warn that up to 30mm of rain could fall in some parts in the space of an hour, rising to 90mm within twelve hours.
The heavy rainfall is the result of a storm front approaching from the Atlantic.
On Thursday winds are also expected to pick up and the maximum temperatures will drop to around 16 degrees.
