Regional government spokesman Elías Bendodo said that works to complete Estepona's High Resolution Hospital were moving "at good speed" during a visit on Saturday.
Bendodo insisted that the current works under way would finish before the end of the year and would therefore allow a gradual opening of the facilities over the course of 2021.
He added that the Junta had been "meeting all the deadlines promised by [regional] president Juanma Moreno in August" until now and that in the last few weeks, the initial order of medical equipment had been installed.
He explained that the next phase is currently out to tender.
The regional minister also said that the hospital would be allocated 6.5 million euros from the regional budget next year.
