The Junta de Andalucía activated its new coronavirus contact tracing mobile application in Malaga and Almeria provinces on Monday.
Radar Covid, which is free, uses Bluetooth technology and anonymously informs users if they have spent at least 15 minutes within two metres of a person who has tested positive for coronavirus in the previous 14 days.
The app's test phase was completed satisfactorily some days ago and it has now been made available to regional governments.
"It's very important for at least 60% of the population to install the app," said regional Health minister Jesús Aguirre. "Then it will be useful for everyone."
