After nine months of extensive infrastructure work, the Torremolinos Cercanías station has entered phase two of its renovation project. In order to progress with the work, platform two has now been closed, so passengers for Malaga and Fuengirola must both now use platform one.

One of the main priorities of the project is to install new elevators and escalators to allow easy access for travellers with mobility problems and those with heavy luggage. Torremolinos town hall has emphasised that the work will not affect the train service which will maintain its usual schedules. The ticket machines will remain in their current location.

The renovation of the station, through which more than two million travellers pass annually, is expected to cost 7.5 million euros.

Torremolinos is one of the few stations on the Malaga-Fuengirola line that fails to comply with accessibility standards in Andalucía.
