  • One man was left seriously injured with stab wounds and six were arrested following the disturbance in Torrenueva

The Guardia Civil arrested six people who took part in a bar brawl in Mijas on Monday night. According to sources, about a dozen people took part, one of whom had to be taken to the Costa del Sol Hospital for emergency surgery after being stabbed several times, once in the abdomen.

All those involved were British nationals between the ages of 25 and 40. Of the six detainees, five have already been released on charges, while the sixth was transferred to Madrid on Wednesday where he was due to respond to two extradition orders issued by the British authorities. He is reportedly linked to several drug trafficking cases.

The events took place on Monday shortly after 11pm. According to sources, a Guardia Civil patrol approached the bar in Torrenueva because there were signs that there might be activity inside. Shortly afterwards, the fight escalated and the noise of furniture and glass breaking could be heard from outside.

Once back-up arrived, the participants in the brawl ran out of the bar, six of whom, who appeared to have been drinking and consuming other substances, were detained by officers despite allegedly violently resisting arrest.

According to SUR sources, the six detainees knew each other and the confrontation was allegedly the result of a mixture of alcohol and drugs, although the trigger of the dispute is not known.

The owner of the premises has filed a complaint about the damage caused.
