According to government Social Security affiliation data for April published this week, 8,683 more people joined the jobless queue in Malaga province, including the Costa del Sol, last month.

The figure excludes many thousands more furloughed or on reduced hours.

This in addition to the 30,234 in March, takes the province's registered unemployed figure up to a total of 192,403, the highest number since 2015.

The area has 46,351 more unemployed than a year ago (equivalent to 31 per cent more). Spain now has 3.8 million registered unemployed.
