Animal Care España (ACE) has made an urgent appeal for donations in order to help run its two refuge centres during the coronavirus crisis. The shelters in La Cala de Mijas and Algeciras have been struggling to cope without the usual support from volunteers and helpers.

Because all transportation of animals has been suspended, the kennels are now full of dogs and cats that had adoptive homes waiting for them in various countries across Europe but are unable to leave the shelter while the restrictions continue.

"Our shelters are home to more than 500 animals at present. Our vital fundraising events have been cancelled, donations have dried up, adoptions have stalled and unwanted dogs are sadly still being dumped at our gates," president Fabienne Paques explained.
