Malaga's provincial government, Diputación, announced last week that it has approved a budget of 281,368 euros to make a series of improvements to Nerja's Calahonda beach.

The project will connect the beach with the Carabineros walkway near the town's famous Balcón de Europa.

Steps will be built to allow access from the walkway down onto the beach, with wooden handrails, benches, lighting and a garden area according to the Diputacíon.

The money will also go towards taking down an old beach bar on the Calahonda beach and using the space for sun loungers.

In 2019 the Diputación invested 263,831 euros to install wooden walkways over the mouths of the Chillar and Seco rivers in Nerja.

All of the projects come under the plan to create a coastal walkway connecting the whole of Malaga province.
