For the second year running, Malaga was the scene of the arrival of Andalucía's first baby of the new year.

Little Adil was born at six minutes after midnight at the Hospital Virgen de la Victoria (also known as the Hospital Clínico) weighing 4.025 kilos and measuring 51 centimetres. He is baby brother to Nassir (5 years) and Aimaar (20 months). His mum, Jessica Ceballo, hopes the rest of the year goes as well as his birth did: "Long but, in the end, easy," she said.

In the race to be first in Andalucía, Adil beat Francisco, born at the Hospital Poniente in Almería by just six minutes.

Marbella

The region's third baby of the new year was also born in Malaga province, in the Hospital Costa del Sol in Marbella.

David, as his parents Noelia Grijota and Óscar Rodríguez have named him, wasn't due until 18 January but put in an early appearance arriving at 12.39am on New Year's Day weighing 3.16 kilos.

Noelia said she was asleep when she felt her waters partially break in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Her partner took her to the hospital and there she stayed until David arrived the following morning.

Óscar wasn't sure if he would stay for the birth but in the end he was there throughout the contractions and was brave enough to cut the umbilical cord of his newborn son.
