The morning tranquility of El Bajondillo beach in Torremolinos was interrupted in dramatic fashion last Friday when a large boat, those typically used by drug smugglers, landed on the beach at great speed.
The boat's occupants fled the scene on foot to avoid capture, but the alarm was raised quickly and police managed to apprehend three of them.
Though the three-engine 350-horse-power boat didn't contain any drugs at the time of its landing, police believe that it was involved in a failed drop-off in the Algeciras area before heading to Torremolinos where it ran out of fuel. Investigations are ongoing in an attempt to locate the cargo which is likely to have been dropped into the sea, or passed on to another vessel.
