A 49-year-old nightclub and bar owner died early on Monday morning when he was shot several times outside his home in San Pedro Alcántara.

Marcos, of Spanish nationality and Moroccan origin, was shot around 14 times ten times by two gunmen who were waiting for him when he arrived home in a high-end Bentley at around 4am.

The driver tried to get out of the vehicle by the passenger door, but he was shot before he had the chance.

The victim was the owner of five nightclubs, bars and restaurants in the Puerto Banús area, including Babilonia, Port Side and Linekers, among others.

After a rise in violence in Marbella, with more than 20 killings happening in 2018, this is the first incident of the new year. Many of the incidents last year were clarified with the arrest of a gang of hitmen based in Sweden.
