A man was arrested in the Axarquía resort of Torre del Mar on Thursday lunchtime in connection with the killing of his former partner.

It came after the body of a 44-year-old woman was found with stab wounds early on Thursday morning in a property in the El Morche area of Torrox.

Guardia Civil investigators believe that it is a case of domestic violence, although no line of inquiry has been ruled out so far.

The arrest took place at 1.20pm and the detainee had a restraining order on him at the time.

The woman's body was found with almost a dozen stab wounds, sources said.

Pending the results of the autopsy, the wounds were on the chest and arms, and according to sources, indicated attempts at self-defence.

Blood on terrace

The alarm was raised at 3.20am on Thursday when the Guardia Civil received a call saying that loud noises could be heard inside a property on Calle Poniente in El Morche.

When the first Local Police patrol arrived, the officers spotted a large amount of blood on the ground that was coming from the balcony above and held back for specialist units of the Guardia Civil to arrive.

After forcing the door, they discovered the body of the woman on the balcony.
