The company responsible for the main collector sewer on the western Costa del Sol has been told to think again about its plans to change the route under a San Pedro beach.

Public-utility company Acosol wants to dig up the pipe that runs under the beach from Marbella to a treatment plant in Estepona because of repeated wave damage in winter storms as sand is eroded.

The beach affected is by Linda Vista in western San Pedro, which is close to the ruins of an early Christian church. Archeaologists from the Junta de Andalucía have said that their studies show there are more ruins in the area behind the beach and so the planned new pipe route needs to change. There was a more positive reaction for plans for a coastal walk and viewpoint at a future excavation that Acosol proposes carrying out.
