Legal proceedings have begun in an attempt to give "fresh impetus" to the Costa del Sol Hospital expansion project, according to the regional minister responsible for Health, Marina Álvarez.
Álvarez, speaking at an event during which the hospital was presented the award for the best hospital in Spain in 2017, said that she hoped the judicial process would strip 'Concesionaria Costa del Sol SA' of the contract after the project was abandoned in 2010 following the refusal of permission for the construction of the car park.
However, Álvarez also warned that the project would remain at a standstill until the judicial process had been completed.
The works, which had an initial budget of 48.5 million euros, stopped approximately at the halfway point.
It is estimated that to complete the project, a further 18 to 24 months of works are necessary.
