Marbella council has been closing off the different dog parks across the municipality for fumigation and disinfecting over the last week. Four of the five parks have been shut for a day for the treatment, which officially is safe after three hours, but, the council explained, better to be on the safe side. The debugging is part of ongoing improvements to the dog exercise facilities, which have had the support of local campaigning group, Marbella Canina.

Improvements have been made to the facilities in Nagüeles, Ashmawi, La Represa and Las Chapas. Work has included replacing some surfaces and improving barriers. The council has 20,000 square metres of dog parks, recently adding San Pedro's Los Tres Jardines from the Junta de Andalucía.
