The organisation Aula del Mar has warned that the Portuguese Man o' War, a rare jellyfish species whose sting is “very painful”, has reached the Costa del Sol. Examples have been spotted off La Malagueta beach and along the coast of Marbella, as well as in Cadiz and Huelva. “Members of the public are advised not to touch them even if they seem dead; they are very poisonous and give very severe stings,” said the organisation.
This isn't the first time that this species of jellyfish has been sighted off the Costa del Sol. When they do arrive, it is normally around this time of year.
