Golf courses work with water supplier to optimise resources while drought risk persists

  • Investment in new irrigation technology has been promised

Representatives of some 40 local golf clubs met with western Costa water supplier, Acocosol, and the Andalusian Golf Federation last Friday to discuss ways to keep their golf courses green as the risk of drought restrictions continues.

It was the latest in a series of meetings to ensure continued cooperation leads to the best use of increasingly scarce water supplies.

Almost 90 per cent of Costa clubs already use treated wastewater from sewage plants rather than normal water to irrigate their courses, a point that club managers said they wished to make the general public more aware of.

Investment in new irrigation technology was also promised.
