Long-term homeless man is housed by Torremolinos town hall

One of the long-standing homeless people in Torremolinos has recently been housed by the social welfare department of Torremolinos town hall.

José María, known affectionately as Rubio, was abandoned as a child and grew up in the town's former orphanage. A series of personal and financial situations led to a life of petty crime and homelessness, yet he has survived on the benevolence of a few kind-hearted expats.

It was one of these, an English woman who has lived in the town for several years, who helped Rubio obtain much of the documentation needed to qualify for social housing. Prior to this, the 72-year-old did not possess identification and being of no fixed abode, he basically did not exist.
