Astronomy enthusiasts love the month of August, because it gives them a chance to see one of the most popular sights of the year, the Perseids shower, also known as St Lawrence's tears, because the phenomenon occurs around the day dedicated to this saint, which is 10 August.
The night of 11/12 August was expected to be best to see it this year, because there was a crescent moon and therefore no additional brightness. However, the highest number of Perseids are due to fall in the early hours of Saturday 14 August. Even better, you don't need equipment such as a telescope or binoculars to see them, but the best chance of a good sighting will be in places with the minimum light pollution. El Torcal, in Antequera, is definitely a good bet.
